Alvaro C. Atayde

Alvaro C. Atayde, lovingly known as Poncho, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born on May 19, 1944, in Civdad-Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico to Blas G Atayde and Francica C. Chacon.

Alvaro was married to Julia R. Ramos on September 5, 1964, in Ulysses, Kansas.

Alvaro was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Church for many years.

Alvaro was a cowboy at heart and a fun, loving family man whose presence brought warmth to those around him. He devoted 30 years of service to the City of Ulysses before retiring, and he truly enjoyed working alongside his teammates. His years of dedication reflected both his strong work ethic and his appreciation for the people with whom he shared that part of his life.

Above all, Alvaro will be remembered for the love he gave to his family. He is survived by his wife, Julia Atayde, Ulysess, Kansas; four sons, Alvaro Ray Atayde, Ulysses, Kansas, Eugene Atayde, Amarillo, Texas, Estevean Atayde and Teresa, Ulysses, Kansas, Faviel M. Atayde, Ulysses, Kansas; three daughters, Teresa L. Flores and Carlos Esquibel, Mexico, Delores Atayde, Ulysses, Kansas, Rosa Gonzalez and Jorge, Garden City, Kansas; a brother, Abelardo Atayde and Rosa, Ulysses, Kansas and 15 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Benita Rodriguez, Elvira Reyes, and Tomasa Barron.

Visitations will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., both at Robson Funeral Home - Ulysses, 218 South Main, Ulysses, Kansas 67880.

A Rosary will also be held on Sunday, October 12, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Mass will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Ulysses, Kansas.

Alvaro will be remembered with love for his hardworking spirit, his joyful nature, and the devotion he showed to his family. His memory will remain cherished by all who knew him.
