Benjamin Harrison Nix Jr., 97, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Hugoton, Kansas, with his loving wife by his side; he was born February 17, 1929, at the Nix homestead. He was the 8th child of Benjamin H. Nix and Lydia M. (Shaeffer) Nix.
He graduated from Hugoton High School in 1947. He was a charter member of the Future Farmers of America Chapter of Hugoton, Kansas.
He worked at various jobs, including the construction of the Rolla Co-Op Elevator and farming with his dad and brothers.
Benny met the love of his life, Jane Naegele, at Black's Drugstore in Liberal, Kansas. He robbed the cradle and married Jane on August 13, 1950. He was 21, and she was 15. They lived a short time in Liberal and then in Hugoton.
They moved to the family farm and started raising wheat, maize, and kaffir. Benny was the last farmer in Stevens County to raise broomcorn.
Along with crops, they began to raise "kids", Debby, Ricky, Judy, Tami, and Jill.
Benny was very active and helpful in his church. He and Jane were charter members of Faith Lutheran Church. He worked hard on the construction and remodeling of the church at 10th & Adams. Benny remained actively engaged in helping his children remodel their homes, and became landlords for several houses, which always needed some kind of work!
Benny raised cattle and farmed until he was 67 years old and then retired to have more time to spend enjoying the things he liked to do. Benny and Jane found time to travel and made several trips with friends and family. They found that they liked to go to the Casinos, and in his last few years, his pace would greatly increase when he reached the casino doors!
Benny always had time for fun with his family and friends. He and Jane spent time Bowling, and loved to play cards with anyone who liked to play.
He watched numerous softball, football, basketball, and track events for all their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He liked to take the family to different lakes for water skiing and camping.
Benny remained active in church activities. He and Jane hosted many church Easter activities and many family reunions at their "round top" at the farm.
He always loved to spend time with the family.
Bible studies were always important to Benny, and if he wasn't able to go, he always supported Jane. His faith in His Lord and Savior was the most important part of his life, along with Jane and the family. He wanted to bring his children up to know their Lord Jesus personally. Benny and Jane enjoyed a life of love and happiness for 76 years. Now he has reached his most important goal, to move into Heaven and be with Jesus for eternity.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Lydia Nix; 5 brothers, Ford, Virgil, Homer, Harding, and Reed; and 2 sisters, Norma Brunte and Nellie Hyde; 2 grandchildren, Dewayne Heaton and Denise Poole Heaton; and great-grandson, Lincoln Moore-Carpenter, and his daughter-in-law, Tracey Nix.
