Betty Jean Horn, 94, of Garden City, Kansas passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Garden Valley Retirement Village. Betty will be laid to rest in a private service at Lakin Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo or Mexican American Ministries.
Betty was born September 24, 1928 to the late Robert and Audrey (Bemis) Williams in Lakin, Kansas. Betty graduated from Lakin High School in 1946. After high school, Betty was married to Floyd Horn on August 19, 1947. Betty pursued a career as a nurse before returning home to help her mother run the family restaurant. Later in life, Betty worked as an office manager and bookkeeper for several businesses before opening Rainbows End Hallmark Store. After retiring, Betty continued to serve the community by serving as a “Pink Lady” volunteer at St. Catherine’s Hospital.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Floyd Horn; a brother, Bobby Williams and brother in law, B.D. Carlton. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Cobb and husband Mickey; son, Jerry Horn and wife Mia; sister, Janice Carlton; 3 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one on the way, 3 great great grandchildren.
