Cecil Lewis Ashlock

December 15, 1932 — August 12, 2024

Grain Valley, Missouri

Cecil Lewis Ashlock passed away peacefully on the morning of August 12, 2024, at his home in Grain Valley, Missouri.

Cecil was born near Buffalo, Oklahoma on December 15, 1932, to parents Kearrian Cecil and Ruby (Weese) Ashlock. He grew up and attended school in Buffalo. As a young boy, Cecil, one of seven children, 2 older brothers and 4 younger sisters, worked on their 25-acre farm near Buffalo with his brothers and sisters, and worked other odd jobs as was required. He attended school in Buffalo, and after high school, he worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. During that time, he ventured to Ashland KS, where he would meet Lucille at the local café. They were married on January 4th, 1953, and were married for 69 years.

After Cecil returned from the Army in 1955, he, Lucille, and 2 daughters, moved to Hugoton KS in 1956, where he took a job as an accountant for Star Lumber Company. For the next 50 years, Cecil and Lucille would remain there to raise their family and spend time with Carla, Steve and their families. Many great memories of family reunions, Sunday dinners and many trips traveling together in their campers.

Cecil became the Stevens County Treasurer (with Lucille as his deputy), for several years, and then he would work for several years at the Northern Natural Gas Company. In addition to those jobs, Cecil was also a carpenter and painter, which he would do on the side.

Eventually, Cecil would make his side jobs his full-time job, and, until he retired, he was a highly sought after "JOATMON" as he would joke (Jack of all trades, Master of none!). Cecil's legacy in Hugoton was well respected. After retiring, Cecil and Lucille spent several years traveling around the United States in a motorhome, going to nearly all 50 states.

Cecil was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugoton, and served as Elder for many, many years. He also taught several Sunday School classes.

Once they were done traveling in 2005, they moved to Grain Valley, Missouri, near their son David. Cecil and David's family would enjoy spending time together, whether it was basketball, football, baseball, traveling, or just Sunday dinner.

These were the best of times! Cecil was a member of the Heartland Church in Blue Springs, and, of course, developed loving friendships there. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucille, his oldest daughter Rhonda, two older brothers, Les and Jr, and two younger sisters, Roxanna and Dorothy and granddaughter Angelia (Showers) Dale.

Cecil is survived by sisters Darlene Jones and Rosa Lou Morgan; daughter Carla Showers and husband Steve; one son David Ashlock and wife Rachel; granddaughters Carisa Lynch, Nichole Reeves and husband Freddie, Lisa Ashlock; grandsons Nathan Showers and wife Christina, Troy VanHorn, Errik Ashlock and wife Christine; great grandchildren Kyle, Landon and fiancé Shay, Tyler, Wyatt, Lilly, Bella, Aylia Reeves, Hunter and Austin Dale, Tyler and wife Kylie and Trevor Showers, Khalil Thrasher, Peyten and Savvy VanHorn, Kealis Miles, Khalissa Sullivan, Jaxon and Madison Ashlock and Jon Clupper. Cecil has one great, great granddaughter, Spencer Showers.

The family would like to thank and recognize granddaughter Lisa Ashlock and Errik's Christine for taking care of Cecil for the past 10 months, at his home in Grain Valley. Their combined efforts were key to Cecil's comfort and safety for the remainder of his life.
