Charles Williams, age 86, passed away on June 22, 2026, in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on December 6, 1939, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Charles “Tod” and Orvillene E. Williams. Chuck built a long and dedicated career as both an engineer and later as a county appraiser. He was widely respected for his strong work ethic, precision, and keen attention to detail.
Chuck is survived by his sister, Patricia “Patti” Allen and her husband, Jim; his nieces, Lisa Steeves and Valerie Reyna; his nephews, Shane Williams and Brad Yaple; and seven great-nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Phil “Buddy” Williams; and his nephew, Kevin.
Outside of his professional life, Chuck found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, a devoted reader, and a keen birdwatcher. He especially enjoyed playing board games and was famously known for upholding the rules—often with a firm reference to the Book of Hoyle. His promptness, humor, and unwavering dedication to family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him
Chuck was a graduate of Fort Hays State University, where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering, and was a member of the United States National Guard.
A graveside memorial service will be held on July 11th, 10:30 a.m. at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Fort Hays State University or the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks in honor of Chuck’s memory, in the care of Robson Funeral Home, 620 N. Main Street, Garden City, Kansas.
