Deborah L. "Deb" Parker

Garden City

 

Deborah “Deb” L. Parker, 59, of Garden City, KS passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 at her home.  A Celebration of Deb’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Robson Funeral Home, 620 N. Main Street, Garden City, Kansas 67846.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home.  Deb's family suggests memorial contributions be made to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo.

 

Deb was born February 28, 1964 to Bob and Arlie Hefty in Havre, Montana.  She was soon adopted by CD and Irma Howard who raised Deb in Panhandle, Texas.  She graduated from Panhandle High School in 1982.  She married Charles “Wes” Parker on August 14, 1982.  While Wes was serving in the military, Deb did what she could to support the family.  She enjoyed crafting, jewelry making, cross stitching, woodworking and spending time with her family while doing her favorite hobbies. In 1991, the family moved to Garden City, KS where Deb attended Garden City Community College and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Friends University.  She worked as a case manager for SDSI where she assisted in placing residents in jobs around the community.  She served at GCCC and Kansas Works assisting the community with job placement and training.  Later, she went on to serve on Kansas Govenor Kathleen Sebelius’ employment board where she oversaw more than 20 counties and assisted with federal job training programs. 

 

Deb is preceded in death by her grandparents, Pat Merrill and husband Chuck; Burr Burris and Russ and Opal Howard.  She is survived by her husband of 41 years Charles “Wes” Parker; son Chase Parker; daughters, Jamie Vasquez and husband Mario: Nicki Kimberly and husband Kiel; sister, Virginia “Jenny” Germany and husband Keith; 3 brothers, Bob Hefty and wife Jaylin; Darren Purrier and wife Karen; Charles “Skeeter” Helms and wife April; 3 grandchildren, Alana Ransonette-Parker; Elijah Vasquez and Braelyn Kimberly.
