Donald Dwayne Wing

June 17, 1958 — May 19, 2026

Ulysses, Kansas

Donald Dwayne Wing, age 67, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

He was born on June 17, 1958, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Donald Dean Wing and Coy Thomas. He was later adopted and lovingly raised by John Homer and Nora Ellen Wing of Cincinnati, Arkansas. As a young boy growing up in Cincinnati, Donnie spent most of his days outdoors, often horseback riding with his siblings and cousins. He attended school in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, before moving to Ulysses, Kansas, as a young man to work at Grant County Feeders.

After several years at the feedlot, Donnie returned to Arkansas to pursue his dream of becoming a bull rider while continuing construction work during the day. He later earned his welding certifications through Tulsa Welding School, and his welding career took him across the country and even overseas to Aruba and Guam. Though welding provided many opportunities, his true passion always remained with cattle and horses.

Eventually, Donnie returned to Ulysses and resumed work at Grant County Feeders, where he fulfilled his lifelong dream of saddling up and working cattle as Head Cowboy. During this time, he continued building the legacy of Wing Quarter Horses, a source of great pride throughout his life. Following semi-retirement, he worked at Next Gen Feedlot until his illness no longer allowed him to continue.

In his spare time, Donnie loved spending time with his horses, playing with his grandchildren, loving on his pups, and watching rodeos every chance he got. Whether he was working cattle, riding pens, or sharing stories from the saddle, he carried the spirit of a cowboy everywhere he went.

Donnie was a devoted husband, loving father, proud brother, and loyal friend. The lessons he passed down, honesty, toughness, kindness, and staying true to yourself, will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him. Even throughout his illness, he faced every challenge with grit, courage, and the stubborn determination that defined his life. He spent his final days surrounded by the people who meant the most to him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Geneva Wing; his children, Niki Drake-Kilpatrick and husband CJ of Springdale, Arkansas, Jennifer Hall and husband Danny, and Bubba Samuels of Hector, Arkansas; his sister, Susan Johnson of Southwest City, Missouri; bonus children, Katy Martin and husband Thane and Keley Falco and husband Damian; 12 grandchildren, Landon, Lucy, Jaxon, Ainsley, Kaleah, Ryker, Ashtin, Brenden, Allen, Savannah, Abby, and Woodrow; two great-grandchildren; his in-laws, JB and Ruth Heustis; dear friends Ronnie and Becky Younger, Doug and Kaylynn Johnson, and Brian Raney; along with several cousins and fellow cowboys who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Dean Wing and Coy Thomas; his grandparents, John and Nora Wing; his uncles, Larry, Junior, Jack, and Bill Wing; his brother-in-law, Danny Johnson; and his nephew, Jeremy Purdue.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Donnie by sharing a story, helping a neighbor, loving your family, and never passing up the chance to make someone laugh.
