Dorothy Rebecca Dickenson Day 1926-2015

Dorothy Rebecca Dickenson Day, 88, died February 28 at her home at The Legacy at Parkview in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born July 4, 1926 in Morton County, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence Walthall and Opal (Mettlen) Dickenson. She graduated from Rolla High School in 1944 and from the Kansas City Business College in Kansas City, Kansas in 1946. Rebecca married Jewell Justice Day July 9, 1947, to this union were born six children, they were later divorced. Rebecca worked as a bookkeeper for many years in the Hugoton and Rolla area until her retirement in 1996.

Rebecca was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and was an avid bowler for many years. She enjoyed reading, gardening and being with her family. She always had Sunday brunch for anyone who showed up with her children and grandchildren for many, many years. Rebecca was an extraordinary lady and touched the lives of many.

Survivors include, one son Kevin Day of Rolla, two daughters, Alicia Hughes of Great Bend and Becky Jan Parker and husband, Don of Ulysses. Six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Cody and Shome Day, Zachary, Zander and Zayden; Cail Day; Cam and Jan Day and Corbin; Case and Dana Day and Ava Lou all of Elk City, Oklahoma; Jessica Rodriguez, Ransom and Lawson of Great Bend and Logan and Amber Littell of Topeka; one brother, Terence and Helen Dickenson of Newberg, Oregon; several nieces and nephews and host friends. Rebecca was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Myrla Dene; sons Stevan and Mikal; son-in-law Marlin Hughes and her parents Lawrence and Opal Dickenson.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 am, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Rolla, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton, Kansas. Visitation will be 10 am to 8 pm, Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Paul’s Funeral Home in Hugoton, Kansas. Memorial in lieu of flowers are requested to the Rolla School Library in honor of Rebecca.
