D. Eileen Schwindt

Dorothy Eileen (Redding) Schwindt, 105, passed away peacefully in Leoti, Kansas, on August 25, 2026. She was born on August 7, 1921, to Orlando Thomas Redding and Mable Mae (Bowie) Redding, and lived a long life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the quiet, steady work of caring for others.

Eileen married the love of her life, Hallie Roy Schwindt, on August 10, 1940, in Scott City, Kansas. They lived on a farm till 1983, and later moved to Garden City, Kansas, for retirement.

She was a devoted housewife and mother whose life reflected warmth, purpose, and generosity. In her spare time, she owned and worked in a flower shop, a fitting place for someone who loved flowers and took such joy in tending them. She was deeply proud of her home and garden, and those who knew her understood how much care she poured into making both places beautiful and welcoming.

Her faith was an important part of her life. A devoted Methodist, Eileen helped with the youth fellowship at her church. She taught Sunday School and a youth program at Pleasant Valley Country Church. She also gave generously of her time and talents in other ways, teaching sewing in 4-H for fifteen years. In addition, she held a real estate license in Arizona. She was also remembered as an amazing school teacher, and to many she was the person to turn to for advice, reassurance, and comfort.

Eileen’s life was rooted in family, and she leaves behind a circle of loved ones who will continue to cherish her memory. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Lynn Love of Manter, Kansas, and Lisa LouAnn Rosales of San Antonio, Texas; by her sister-in-law, Melva Rose Reeding of Peoria, Arizona; and by her grandchildren, Felicia, Leah, Kyle, and Greg. She is also lovingly remembered by several great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends whose lives were brightened by her kindness and presence.

She was preceded in death by her father, Orlando Redding, and her mother, Mable Redding; five siblings, Donald Redding, Helen Jay, Edith Stout, Phyllis Jean Harding, and Robert Redding.

Eileen Schwindt will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her caring heart, her love of home and flowers, and the many ways she offered guidance and comfort to those around her. Her life was one of service, grace, and enduring love, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who knew her.

A memorial has been established for Wichita County Long Term Care, in care of Robson Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St., Garden City, Kansas 67846.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home, Garden City, Kansas. 

Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, Kansas, with Pastor James Akins.
