Gary Lynn Ellis

Gary Lynn Ellis passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Morton County Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. 

Gary was born on February 2, 1951, to Lando Lauren Ellis and Clara Elvira (Milam) Hicks. His mother later married Earl Hicks, and his father later married Gladys Ellis. Gary was blessed to be raised and loved by all four, each of whom played an important role in his life.

Gary grew up in Elkhart, Kansas, and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1969. On February 2, 1979, he married Phyllis Ann Skidgel in Rawlins, Wyoming. Together, they shared many years of marriage until her passing on November 23, 2021.

Gary spent many years working in the gas field before retiring. Retirement, however, did not keep him from staying active. He later became the clubhouse attendant at Point Rock Golf Club in Elkhart, a fitting place for a man who truly loved the game of golf.

An outdoorsman at heart, Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and simply being outside. He was always on the go and especially treasured any opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. Whether on the golf course, outdoors, or surrounded by family, Gary enjoyed the simple things in life and the people he loved most.

Gary is survived by his son, Robert Ellis, and wife Sheena; daughters, Shanda Ellis, Denay Scharpf, and Renay Houck; brothers, Rick Ellis and wife Ardith, and Cary Ellis, and wife Shauna; sister, Shirley Burnett; and seven grandchildren, Calum, Ember, Kobie, Ganina, Kendel, Kaelyn, and Noah.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Ann Ellis; grandchild, Alex Lynn Ellis; brother, Tim Ellis; and his parents, Lauren and Gladys Ellis, Clara and Earl Hicks. 

A memorial has been established for the Men’s Golf Association at Point Rock Golf Club in Elkhart. Memorials may be mailed to Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 606, Elkhart, Kansas 67950.

Book signing will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 12 P.M. until 7 P.M. at Robson Funeral Home, 120 Grant Street, Elkhart, Kansas 67950.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home Chapel, 120 Grant Street, Elkhart, Kansas, with Pastor Jess Lee presiding. There will be no burial. Following the memorial service, the family invites everyone to the Point Rock Golf Clubhouse for a time of fellowship and remembrance of Gary.
