Joseph Albert Paulson, 82, of Garden City, KS formerly of Goodyear, AZ passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at St. Catherine’s Hospital from a long battle of cancer.  Joe was born September 28, 1940 to the late Raymond and Theresa Paulson in Tucumcari, New Mexico. 

 

Joe went to grammar and high school in Tucumcari, NM before earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Mexico. After college, Joe lived in Southern California where he went to work for the Boy Scouts of America. In 1985, while working for the Roosevelt Council of the BSA in Phoenix, AZ, he earned his MBA from the University of Phoenix.  Joe accepted the position of Executive Director of the Boy Scouts of America - Santa Fe Council and moved to Garden City in 1995.  Joe retired from the Boy Scouts in 1997 and went to work as the Director for the Garden City Meals on Wheels program.  During his time at Meals on Wheels, he delivered over 250,000 meals and served the greater community of Garden City. 

 

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Kari Paulson and a brother, Robert “Bob” Paulson.  He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Lita Paulson; his sons, Michael Paulson and wife Terry; Mark Paulson and wife Jean; stepsons, Brian Banister; Paul Banister; Keith Banister and wife Brandy; sister, Kristine Paulson-Husman; grandchildren, Ryan Paulson and wife Abby; Bryanna Paulson; Logan Paulson; Chase Paulson; Courtney Paulson; Shay Paulson; nieces, Kim Enriquez, Tammy Husman & Agnes Arnold and her husband David; Cassie Cope and husband Cliff, Connie Paulson-S’ua and husband, Junior; step grandchildren, Chrissy Banister and husband Jon Malewski; Jessie Turnbow; Laurie Turnbow; nephews, Raymond Paulson and Robert Paulson Jr and wife Lori; great grandchildren, Sophie Paulson and Decker Paulson.

 

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Santa Fe Council - 420 E.
