Larry Lee Martin, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 84. Heaven gained one of the very best. He was truly one of a kind.
Larry was born on September 23, 1941, in Mount Hope, Kansas, the cherished son of Joseph Peter Martin and Philomena (Reichenberger) Martin. From an early age, he learned the values that defined his life—faith, hard work, family, and kindness.
On June 16, 1964, Larry married the love of his life, Myra Kay Murray. Their marriage of more than 61 years was a beautiful example of devotion, loyalty, and true partnership. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering love. Myra was his best friend, and their bond was the heart of everything he did.
A lifelong Catholic, Larry lived his faith quietly and faithfully. He was a man of strong character who believed in doing what was right, helping others, and taking care of those he loved.
Larry’s work life was always rooted in family. As a young man, he began trucking alongside his father, Grandpa Martin, and later farmed in Kansas and South Dakota with his brothers, Quintin and Bill. The farm and trucking operations were true family businesses, with entire families pitching in and working side by side. Those years created lifelong bonds and cherished memories among cousins and relatives alike. When the farm was later traded for a trailer park, Larry went on to build a successful custom harvesting business, where once again the whole family worked together. After selling the harvesting business, he returned to full-time trucking, a career he loved and took great pride in.
No matter the work he was doing, his greatest pride was always his family. He had friends from north to south and a way with people that made even a stranger feel like a lifelong friend.
Larry and Myra raised their children in South Dakota before eventually making their home in Hugoton, Kansas. No matter where life took him, his family remained his center. He was a steady presence through every season of life, leading with wisdom, integrity, and a gentle strength that everyone around him relied on.
His family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends brought him immense joy. He was a man who always had time to listen, tell a good story, share one-liners, offer advice, or lend a helping hand. He never met a stranger and had a gift for making people feel welcome and cared for.
Surrounded by his wife and four children, he left this world gently and with dignity. Larry’s family takes comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his parents, brothers, sisters, and all those who went before him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife, Myra Martin of Hugoton; his sons, Joseph P. Martin and Jeffrey D. Martin (Virginia) of Hugoton; his daughters, Marsha K. Merrill (Todd) of Ogden, UT, and Getana L. Ortiz (Balente "Bean") of Oklahoma City, OK; his sister, Lucille “Goldie” Andra (Ken) of Conway, KS; as well as six adored grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: brothers Quintin Martin and Kenneth Bill Martin, and sister Almeda Marx, Mary Kay Becker, and Naoma Winter.
In honor of Larry’s legacy, a memorial has been established, with details available through Robson Funeral Home.
