Larry T Pearce

March 19, 1929 — January 24, 2024

Johnson, KS

Larry T. Pearce, beloved father and friend, passed away on January 24, 2024, in Ulysses, Kansas. Larry was born on March 19, 1929, in Dermot, Kansas. He was the son of Claude Lewis and Fannie Emma (Milburn) Pearce. He was the second of five children.

His family eventually settled on the Pearce family farm  in Johnson, KS, and this is where Larry spent the majority of his childhood and young adulthood.  On the farm, Larry learned the value of hard work and perseverance, enduring the difficult era of the Dust Bowl.  These values would become pillars of his personality and guide him throughout his life.

After graduating from high school, Larry enlisted in the United States Navy. He served at the end of the Korean War.  Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, Larry settled in Los Angeles, California.  He eventually married and had a family, 4 children - Janet Fogarty (Steve) of Emmett, ID; Martin Pearce (Christi) also of Emmett, ID; Leslie Chao (Harry) of San Dimas, CA; and Ellen Mathews (Martin) of Sierra Madre, CA. Larry also leaves five grandchildren–Jessica, Kal, Annie, Emily, and Sofia.

After a long career at Certified Grocers, Larry retired to Johnson, KS and his family farm.  Known as “Pearce Corner,” the acreage still yields white wheat for the Lucas Seed Co. Larry was active in both the Johnson and Ulysses' communities and played an important role in the construction of the Johnson Senior Center as an active board member.  Larry was a lifelong lover of hunting, and was a car aficionado, being the proud owner of many vintage cars in his lifetime.  He lived his life on his own terms with a unique fire and spirit.  He will be missed by his surviving family members.
