Larry R. Stefan

February 15, 1949 — August 21, 2023

Garden City

Larry Stefan, 74, passed away peacefully Monday, August 21 at his home in Garden City, KS.  He was born February 15, 1949 in Colby, Kansas; the son of Peter Stefan and Clara Marie (Dreiling) Stefan.

Larry was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and enjoyed attending REACH Services in Garden City from his early years well into his middle age.  He was employed with Walmart for over 20 years until his retirement at the age of 67.  In his many years at Walmart, he worked hard gathering carts from the parking lot. Larry loved “saving young kids from getting hit by cars,” preventing theft, and loved visiting with customers. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. He was friendly, good natured, very helpful, and spontaneous.  Larry loved his family and was always excited to show others their pictures.   He loved to bowl and play basketball. He loved watching KU and the Kansas City Chiefs, and loved collecting things, especially fire trucks. Larry loved watching Western movies and his favorite television show was Bonanza. He loved his toy puppy and would clap to get it to bark. He always looked forward to going out to eat with friends and was known to always have a girlfriend. His favorite holiday was Halloween, he always loved dressing up as a cop.  He made many “arrests” during this holiday. He was supported with daily living needs and employment by Destiny Supports and was loved by many staff over the years.

Larry is survived by seven siblings, Vern Stefan (Sherrie) of Kansas City, Leon Stefan of Hutchinson, Elaine Ware (Tom) of Wichita, Debby Henderson (Alan) of San Antonio TX, Lynn Stefan of Liberal KS, Wayne Stefan of Garden City KS, and Kevin Stefan of Fountain CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents
