Leland Hartley Lissolo passed from this life in the early hours of November 24, 2024 in Hugoton, KS.
Leland was born on October 12, 1940 in Fort Morgan, Co., the middle of seven children born to Frederick and Lorena (Hartley) Lissolo. Leland spent most of his childhood on the family farm near Weldona, CO., where he graduated in 1958 from Weldon Valley High School.
After graduation, Leland tried his luck in the big city of Denver, CO., and attended business college, but found he enjoyed working with his hands much more than wearing a suit, so he returned to the family farm. Soon, he met Janet Dones and the two were married on December 17, 1961 in Fort Morgan, CO. Together, they crafted a 62-year partnership built on love, laughter, and a mutual tolerance of Leland’s endless storytelling. Leland and Janet added son, Todd, to their family in 1966 and then a daughter, Tina, two years later in 1968.
Leland moved the family to Gordon, NE. in 1978 where the entrepreneurial bug struck, and he started Lissolo Farms with his brothers. Eventually Leland founded LC Potato with his son, Todd. In 2002, father and son opted to move the family potato operation to Hugoton, KS. So, Janet and Leland, along with their son Todd and his family relocated to Hugoton to continue the potato business until 2015, when Leland and Todd made the difficult decision to retire from farming.
Of course, Leland could not stay retired for long and later in 2015, he assisted son Todd with the establishment of Flatlanders Farm and Home. Later, in 2019 Leland served as a partner and supervisor in the creation of Bonnie and Clyde Bar & Grill in Hugoton, KS. Leland was a very stoic gentleman who possessed a fast-talking tongue and a staggering knowledge of countless subjects. He was always ready to lend a hand or a helpful idea to anyone willing to listen, and if you listened long enough, a handy tip or two was sure to come.
Due to failing health, Leland and his wife Janet moved to Pioneer Manor in Late July, where he lived out the remainder of his life. Never one to rest long, Leland continued to employ his vast knowledge from many years of different adventures to make improvements where he saw fit in his new home.
Family was very important to Leland. Along with son Todd and wife Lori of Hugoton, KS., and daughter Tina and husband Greg of Brownwood, TX., he added to his lineage eight grandchildren: Lacey and husband Trent of Hugoton, KS., Lindsey and husband Andy of Ulysses, KS., Heather and husband Trevor of Andrews, TX., Shayla of Enid, OK., Ty and wife Brianne of Chesterfield, MI., Colten and wife Kaitlin of Iola, KS., Trae and wife Becky of Andrews, TX., and Timmy of Marsland, NE. He was also a proud great-grandfather to fourteen; Madison, Drayden, Mackenzie, Landyn, Hadyn, Hartley, Armani, Halle, Lillian, Tatum, Kenneth, Conrad, Dean, and Brooks. Leland also leaves behind a host of family and friends too numerous to count.
Leland is also survived by his sister Louise and husband Ralph of Loveland, CO., and his brother Roger of Denver, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents; Fred and Lorena and his siblings; Lawrence, Lester, Leonard, and Luella.
