Obituary for Luther "Mickey" McMurphy

Luther McMurphy “Mickey” age 74, passed away Sunday evening, February 21, 2016, in Wickenburg, Az.
He was born October 20, 1941 in Woodward, Ok, the son of Roy James McMurphy and Patrica Grace Headley (McMurphy). He graduated from Woodward High School and attended Northwestern State University. He served his country in the Army Reserves.
On December 29, 1961, he married Margaret “Ann” McPhail in Taloga,Ok. After marrying the couple lived in Woodward,Ok. After several years made there home in Ashland,Ks. Mickey worked on a farm ranch operation for 13 years. Opportunities in the oilfield lead the family to Liberal,Ks where he worked as a pumper and consultant until he retired. He also designed and patent an oilfield product. Mickey enjoyed raising and training quarter horses and ultimately showing one heading horse at the AQHA Kansas Championship in 1971. He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal,Ks.
He is survived by his wife Margaret McMurphy of Liberal,Ks. His daughter Kelly Eakes and husband Roger, Son, Dallas Mc Murphy of Bueaux Bridge, La. Grandchildren, Morgan Dawson and husband Michael of Corinth,Tx and Austin Eakes of Plains,Ks. Whitney and Kasey McMurphy of Lafayette, La and great granddaughter Raelynn Grace Eakes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Roy James McMurphy Jr.
Vigil service will be held at 7 pm Tuesday March 1, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Liberal,Ks with Father Jim Decker presiding. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday March 2, 2016 at the Catholic Church with graveside services to follow in Ashland, Ks.
