Manuela (Corona) Carrillo, 65, of Elkhart, Kansas, passed away in Wichita, Kansas, on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Manuela was born on February 19, 1958, to Antonio and Paula (Simental) Corona in Saus Ojos Azules, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Bonifacio “Ruben” Carrillo and Manuela Corona were married on October 2, 1973, in Johnson, Kansas. To this union were six children; Leonardo, Alma Rosa, Antonio, Juan, Iban, and Alba Marina. Manuela and Ruben enjoyed taking their children on vacation, which they always cherished. 

Manuela’s family was her pride and joy; she enjoyed following her children and grandchildren in their various activities. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, visiting with family and friends, and going to the segundas. Manuela also enjoyed traveling to see her family in Oklahoma and visited family in Mexico together. 

Manuela was a custodian at Yarbrough School District for 30-plus years. Her time at Yarbrough was cherished. She played an active role in the lives of many students and teachers. She enjoyed catching up with them when they came to visit. 

Survivors include Leonardo (Corinna) Carrillo, Alma Rosa Nevarez Carrillo, Juan (Aurelia) Carrillo, Iban Carrillo, all of Elkhart, KS.; and Alba Marina Carrillo of Eva, OK.; daughter-in-law, Cristil Carrillo of Enid, OK.; sisters, Luz Estela Corona Simental and Irma Elida Corona Simental of Anadarko, OK.; brothers Desidero Corona Simental of Anadarko, OK.,  Eliodoro Cornoa Simental of Sonora, Mexico; thirteen grandchildren, Ismael Hernandez, Hailey Carrillo, Natalie Nevarez, Angelica Hernandez, Emily Nevarez, Daven Luera, Manuel Hernandez, Mason Carrillo, Alan Nevarez, Madelyn Carrillo, Joel Carrillo, Mila Carrillo, Jaylin Carrillo; a great-grandson, Kade Carrillo; and many other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Bonifacio “Ruben” Carrillo; her favorite son, Antonio Carrillo; and granddaughter, Analy Nevarez. 

A memorial has been established for Manuela Carrillo Memorial Fund in the care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 606, Elkhart, Kansas 67950.


Visitation will be held Friday, March 17, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home, 120 Grant Street, Elkhart, Kansas. 

Rosary will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 7 p.m. at Elkhart, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 10 a.m., at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, with Reverend Rudin Din, presiding—burial to follow at Elkhart Cemetery.

Robson Funeral Home, Elkhart, is overseeing the arrangements.
