Marcia Brittin

d. May 14, 2025

Marcia Jane (Mallonee) Brittin, the daughter of Fred and Eliza Jane (Jenny Karney) Mallonee, was born November 18, 1925 at Fort Dodge, Kansas. She passed on May 14, 2025 at the age of ninety-nine in Denver, Colorado. Her mother died in 1936 and her father died in 1952. The youngest of nine children, she was the last surviving member of her family.

She attended schools in Kansas, graduating from Dodge City High School in 1944. She was employed at Bank of America in California where she met her husband, Robert Porter Brittin, through mutual friends. They were married on September 14, 1946, in East Gary, Indiana, and lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Vermont, where her husband was employed by the Central Vermont Railway. He was later appointed to a position with the Interstate Commerce Commission, and they lived in Illinois and California. After his retirement, they moved to Santa Maria, California.

Marcia was primarily a homemaker and mother and enjoyed raising their three sons. When they were young, she was active in their school PTA, serving as President, and in sports and church activities.

While living in Santa Maria, California, Marcia was a St. Andrews United Methodist Church member, where she was active in the UMW. Always interested in genealogy, she also volunteered at the Santa Maria Family History Center. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, and sang with the Coastal Voices choir in Santa Maria and surrounding communities. An avid reader, she enjoyed discussing current events with her children and others.

After the death of her husband, Robert, in 1996, she remained in Santa Maria until moving to Katy, Texas in 2005 to be near her son, Scott and his wife Naoko. Marcia joined the First United Methodist Church of Katy, where she was active in church circles and sang with the Joyful Noisemakers. She also belonged to the Friends of Katy Library.

At the age of ninety, she sold her car and her home in Katy and moved to an independent living facility in Denver near where her middle son Doug and his family lived, including grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

She is survived by three sons, Scott (Naoko) of Katy, Texas, Doug (Lorrie) of Denver, Colorado, and Keith of Manchester, Connecticut. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lani (Paul) Lucero of Costa Mesa, California, Peter (Emily) Brittin of Denver, Colorado, and Lucy (James) Rimensnyder, also of Denver, Colorado, as well as five great-granddaughters, Colette, Alice, Rose, Heidi, and Mackenzie. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
