Opal Hall, longtime resident of Stevens County passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, at Morton County Hospital, in Elkhart, Kansas. Born November 15, 1938, she was the daughter of Paul "Pete" and Julia Stoddard.
She grew up in the Moscow Community, graduating from Moscow High School in 1956. Opal worked a short time at Epwarth Hospital in Liberal, Kansas before taking employment with the Stevens County Sheriff's Office. She would later go to work in the County Clerk's office. She was appointed by the Kansas State Governor to serve as the county clerk when the presiding clerk retired. A position she held until her retirement.
April 8, 1962, she married George L. Hall in the Moscow Methodist Church, where she was a member, having joined the church as a teenager. They would share 62 years of love and precious memories. Their son, Jason, was born in 1973.
For several years Opal served on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Guidance Center, receiving awards for years of service and commitment and the Roy and Myrtle Parsons’ trust. She was currently serving on both at the time of her death.
She enjoyed working in the yard and attending the activities of her grandsons, Garrett and Weston.
Those preceding her in death were her parents and her seven brothers and sisters: Mary Louise Glover, Marvin Ragan, Kenneth Ragan, Christine Munson- Suddeth, Jackie Stoddard, Katherine Sickler, and Elven Stoddard.
Survivors include husband George of the home, son, Jason Hall and wife Sharmilla of Elkhart; two grandsons, Garrett Hall and wife Yancie of Elkhart, Weston Hall serving in the Airforce; brother-in-law, Donald Hall of Hugoton, sister-in-law, Guylene Stoddard of Lenexa and several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established for Pheasant Heaven Charities, in the care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home of Hugoton.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church of Hugoton, Pastor Patty Lahey presiding the service. Burial to follow at Hugoton Cemetery, Hugoton.
