Randall “Randy” Wayne Lewis, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. Born on September 30, 1952, in Borger, Texas, he was the beloved son of Vondell Dwayne Lewis and Oretha May (Ayers) Lewis.
Randy’s life was marked by love, devotion, and service. He married his soulmate, Kay Marie Brown, and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming sons Brandon Reece and Chad Eric. Randy’s warmth and kind spirit drew people to him—he had a unique ability to make others feel special, always greeting them with a smile and engaging in heartfelt conversation.
His greatest joy came from spending time with family. Whether camping and hiking at the river, riding dirt bikes, exploring Black Mesa, or picking up his grandkids for hot chocolate and a little fun at the river, Randy cherished every moment. He loved creating memories with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family—memories that will last for generations.
Randy was deeply committed to his community. He served as an EMT in Morton County and shared his expertise as an EMT instructor/director for many years, impacting countless lives. He owned and operated the Ole Butcher Shop, a second-generation family business in Elkhart, Kansas, passing down his skills to his sons, grandsons, and even his great-grandson. He was a member of the Jaycees, helping sponsor Little Britches Rodeos, and worked at the Elkhart Cemetery in recent years. In 2024, Randy received an award from the Mayor of Elkhart for delivering meals to homebound seniors during a snowstorm.
Randy loved being involved in community events. He and his friend Loren Youngers were known for staying up all night to cook for the fair BBQ, and for many years Randy cooked for the booster club hamburger fry and the annual trail ride. He was active at the Senior Center and truly enjoyed visiting with friends there. A man of many interests, Randy enjoyed taking a watercolor painting class with his niece, coloring pictures, and exploring genealogy to keep family connections strong. He stayed in touch with loved ones through Facebook and had a sweet tooth for oatmeal crème pies.
Randy’s legacy lives on through his family: his beloved wife, Kay Lewis; sons Brandon Lewis and wife Jubi, and Chad Lewis; six grandchildren—Drake Lewis and companion Mariah, Brady Lewis and wife Bridget, Kailyn Lewis and fiancé Logan, Haddi Emmert, Savanah Emmert, and Coleman Lewis; and five great-grandchildren—Lia, Oliver, Easton, Elle, and Koa. He is also survived by his nurturing mother, Oretha Lewis. He was preceded in death by his father, Vondell D. Lewis, and brother Eddie Reece Lewis.
