Robert Thomas Gonzales, a beloved chef and cherished member of the Garden City community, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in his hometown of Garden City, Kansas. Born on May 30, 1979, Robert's life was marked by his passion for culinary arts, his love for family, and his vibrant personality that touched all who knew him.

Robert graduated from Garden City High School, where he laid the foundation for a career that would bring joy to many through his culinary skills. He devoted himself professionally as a chef at Time Out Sports Bar and Grill, where his talent for cooking and dedication to his craft earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and patrons alike.

Beyond his professional life, Robert’s interests were varied and reflective of a warm and engaging spirit. He enjoyed watching television, traveling to new places, and relishing the art of cooking barbecue—a passion that brought people together and created lasting memories. Building with Legos was among his creative outlets, showcasing his love for detail and imagination.

He was born and breathed life in Garden City, Kansas, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life and where he ultimately returned. His passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him.

Robert is survived by his devoted parents, Robert Martinez Gonzales and Sheila Karen (Mancha) Gonzales of Garden City, Kansas, who provided unwavering support and love. By his side in companionship was his partner, Richardo Gallegos, also of Garden City, Kansas, whose bond with Robert was a testament to their shared life. He is also survived by his sister, Ranae Nicole Pennington, and her husband, Riley of Greensboro, North Carolina, along with two nephews, Ryan and Rhyse, who carried forward the light of his family legacy. Numerous other relatives and friends hold Robert in their hearts, honoring the many roles he played in their lives.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Thomas and Gilda Mancha, and John Gonzales and Rebecca Trejo. Their memories remain a cherished part of the family's history and story.

A memorial has been established for Robert Thomas Gonzales Memorial Fund; in care of Robson Funeral Home, 620 N. Main St., Garden City, Kansas 67846.

Book signing will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home, Garden City, Kansas. 

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home, Garden City, Kansas. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City, Kansas.
