Shirley Darlene Bennett

August 26, 1943 — March 30, 2026

Garden City, Kansas

Shirley Darlene Bennett, beloved mother, sister, and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on March 30, 2026, at The Ranch House in Garden City. Born Shirley Darlene Farr on August 26, 1943, in Scott City, Kansas, she was the daughter of William Oliver and Mildred Rosetta (Russell) Farr.

A proud graduate of Scott Community High School in 1961, Shirley's life was marked by dedication to both her family and her work. She married Aaron Kent Bennett in 1961, and together they raised five wonderful children: Shonda, Shelia, Michael, Mark, and Sharilyn. Though their paths later separated, her devotion to her children remained unwavering.

Shirley's career as an accountant began at Burnett Cattle in Scott City, where she served faithfully for 13 years before relocating to Garden City in 1989. There, she continued her professional journey for 21 years with Gigot Feeders/Garden City Feedyard/AZTX/Trinity Feedyard, demonstrating a strong work ethic until her retirement.

Her passion for nurturing others extended beyond the workplace. Shirley enriched her community as a 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader, and was an active member of the Rebekah Lodge. She found joy in sewing, playing, listening to music, watching westerns, exploring genealogy, singing, cooking, dancing, and, most of all, spending precious moments with her family.

A faithful member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City, Shirley's spirit was grounded in faith and fellowship. She leaves behind a loving legacy through her children—Shonda Sauseda and husband Willie, of Garden City, Shelia Croft and husband JT of Copeland, KS, Michael Bennett and wife Lexie of Topeka, KS, Mark Bennett and wife Suzy of Gilbertville, IA, and Sharilyn Stewart and husband Darin of Scott City, KS. She also cherished her sister, May Carpenter, and husband Ralph of Garden City, KS, sister-in-law Roberta Farr of Louisville, KY, fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers—Delbert, Don, Norman, and Leon Farr—her sister Brenda Kay Farr, and her granddaughter Maddison Shiraye Stewart.
