Steven "Soup" Riggs Campbell

Steven "Soup" Riggs Campbell, 71, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Hugoton, Kansas, on May 14, 2025. He was born on January 11, 1954, in the same town he cherished throughout his life, to John Monroe Campbell and Mary Oletia (Riggs) Campbell.

A dedicated Stevens County Road Department employee, Steve’s hard work shone brightly until his retirement in 2020. Beyond his career, he found joy in the embrace of nature, spending cherished moments hunting and fishing. His leisure time was often filled with the thrill of sports and the classic stories of war movies. A true fan of trivia, every day at 3 p.m., Steve would settle in for his favorite show, "Jeopardy!".

Steve’s legacy extends into the hearts of his family. He was a loving father to his daughters, Erin and Allison, whom he adored deeply. He first married Virginia Sue (Ayers) Campbell, who brought two beautiful daughters into his life before her passing in October 1989. In a testament to love's resilience, Steve later married Marsha Jane (Harmon) Campbell on March 30, 2002, who stood by his side and filled their days with joy.

Steve's family includes not only his devoted wife Marsha but also his daughters, Erin Kraisinger (Justin Nulik) and Allison Bucknam (Ryan), his sister Kristi Baker, and his treasured grandchildren: Taylor, Jewels, Brooks, and Braylee.

He will be remembered for his warmth, his teaching spirit, especially in guiding his family to enjoy the card game pitch, and the love he shared with all who knew him. He is reunited in spirit with his parents, his first wife, Virginia, and his brothers Eddie and Bill.

Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Steve during visitation on Sunday, May 18, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Robson Funeral Home in Hugoton. A graveside service will follow on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Hugoton Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Patty Lahey.
