DATELINE-HUGOTON, KS
SYLVIA ANN (SKEEN) WILSON

Sylvia Ann (Skeen) Wilson, 80, Satanta, Kansas, died Friday, February 27, 2015, at Satanta Long Term Care, Satanta, Kansas.
The daughter of Ralph Glenn & Minnie (Thomas) Skeen, she was born February 4, 1935, at Harrisburg, Nebraska. Sylvia came into the world during the days when loaves of bread were ten cents and the Dust Bowl was raging. At about the time she was 18 months old, her family moved to the Oregon side of the Snake River. After living in Oregon, her family then relocated to Weizer, Idaho. With the family’s last move, Sylvia ended up in Bloom, Kansas, a small town in southern Ford County.
Sylvia is the youngest of three children; she has an older sister, Leah, and a brother, Ray, who is the eldest child. As a child, Sylvia was always doing something with her hands, like puzzles or crochet. Sylvia suffered from epileptic seizures, and her mother noticed that if Sylvia kept quiet and kept busy, the seizures were not as harsh and frequent. On account of those seizures, Sylvia never drove any kind of motor vehicle as she felt it was safer for everyone that way.
Sylvia commenced and concluded her high school career in Bloom. After high school, Sylvia spent a year at the business college in Hutchison, Kansas earning an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. While attending college, she met her former husband, Clarence Otto Wilson, a Navy recruit who was stationed there. To this union three sons and one daughter were born; Douglas Wilson, Charles Wilson, Paul Wilson, and Caroline Jean Thorne. Sylvia and Clarence were later divorced.
Survivors include her two sons, Charlie Wilson & wife Sandy of Copan, Oklahoma, and Paul Wilson & wife Sherri of Satanta, Kansas; a daughter Carolyn Wilson of Council Grove, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Doug Wilson, brother Ray Skeen, sister Leah Skeen Schastien, and great grandson Jason Boese.
A memorial has been established for the Satanta Long Term care Unit in Satanta, Kansas. Memorials may be mailed to Paul’s Funeral Home, Box 747, Satanta, Kansas 67870.
