Virginia "Ginger" K. Cantrell

Virginia “Ginger” Kay Cantrell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Hugoton, Kansas, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 18, 1946, in Ransom, Kansas, to Charles and Neva Fern (Donovan) Dallan, and lived a life marked by warmth, devotion, and a generous spirit that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Ginger was known for her kind and most supportive nature. To know her was to love her, and to be welcomed by one of her hugs was to feel the sincerity and comfort she so naturally gave. 

She was a dedicated worker throughout her life. Ginger worked for several years at the Moscow Grain Elevator, where her commitment and steady presence were valued. Even in retirement, she had no desire to step away from work entirely, and she became a warm welcome at the Forewinds Golf Course Clubhouse, where her friendly presence surely brightened many days.

Ginger loved to dance and listen to music, and she delighted in shopping, especially for clothes and shoes. Even in her last days, that playful affection for the things she enjoyed still shone through when she said, “..my shoes, are my pride and joy.” In recent years, she found special joy in attending the recreational sports and school programs of her great-nieces and nephews. She loved being there for them, encouraging them and making them feel supported no matter the event.

She is survived by her daughter, Teri Betsworth, and husband, Brent, of Hugoton, Kansas. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Camrie Sheets of Ulysses, Kansas, and Kylie Sunderland and her husband, Boston, of Satanta, Kansas. Ginger is further survived by her sisters, Cheri Kuehn and her husband, Terry, of Hugoton, Kansas, Barbara Dallan of Hugoton, Kansas, and Judy Bagby, of Holton, Kansas, as well as her sister-in-law, Suzie Dallan of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. These family ties were an important part of her life, and her love and support will remain with them always.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Fern Dallan; by her son, Troy Alan Cantrell; by her brothers, Mike, Tony, and Charles Dallan; by her sisters, Betty Lacore and Debbie Settlemyer; and by her nephew, Derek Settlemyer. Their memories remained part of her life’s story, and now she rests among them.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church of Hugoton, 600 S. Van Buren Street, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.

Ginger will be remembered for her kindness, her steadfast support of those she loved, her delight in music and dancing, and the joy she found in showing up for her family. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will be treasured with deep affection.
