Virginia Ontiveros, 91, passed peacefully on September 12, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas, and went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born on January 11, 1935, in Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico, to Felix Pecina and Concepcion Quiroz. She carried with her throughout her life the strength, devotion, and deep love that would come to define her in the hearts of all who knew her.
Raised in Matehuala, Virginia, she attended school through grade school before stepping into a life marked by tireless work, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a devoted homemaker who cared lovingly for her children and grandchildren. Her days were filled with purpose and sacrifice. She rose early to cook breakfast for her children, then spent the day working hard in the fields. Afterward, she returned home to prepare supper for her family, clean, and get ready for the next day. In every season of life, she was a devoted mother and provider whose labor expressed love.
Virginia also held a deep and abiding love for her husband, Patricio Ontiveros, cherishing him dearly until his passing in September of 2020. That faithful love stood as a quiet testimony to the loyalty and tenderness with which she lived her life.
To her family, Virginia was the most loving and curious mother and grandmother. She worried constantly for those she loved and cared for them endlessly. Her presence brought comfort, her concern reflected the depth of her heart, and her example leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and selfless devotion.
She is survived by her eleven children, Daniel Ontiveros of Garden City, Kansas; Gregoria Lara and husband, Juan of Garden City, Kansas; Felix Ontiveros of Dallas, Texas; Amando Ontiveros and wife Maria, of Garden City, Kansas; Ismael Ontiveros and wife Julie, of Amarillo, Texas; Elizabeth Ontiveros of Garden City, Kansas; Fermina Espinosa and husband Anthony, of Garden City, Kansas; Deyna Herrada and husband Steven, of Garden City, Kansas; Dana Ontiveros, of Abilene, Texas; Edith Espinosa and husband Adam, of Amarillo, Texas; and Vanessa Ontiveros of Amarillo, Texas; two siblings, Esther Herrera and Simon Pecina. She is also survived by thirty-four loving grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four children, and two siblings.
Though her passing brings deep sorrow, Virginia’s life remains a lasting blessing. She will be remembered for her endurance, her nurturing spirit, and the extraordinary love she poured into her family each day. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her, loved her, and were sustained by her care.
