Wilmer Clarence Perry passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at his home in Hugoton, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 8, 1941, in Stevens County, Kansas, to Wilmer Jesse and Isabel May (Higgins) Perry.
Wilmer and LaDonna Kay Blackburn were married on July 24, 1965, at the Southern Baptist Church—now known as Trinity Baptist Church—in Hugoton, Kansas.
He was deeply involved in youth organizations such as 4H and FFA, both during his school years and beyond.
Wilmer proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, fulfilling his duties with honor and distinction. Following his military service, he applied the same dedication and work ethic to his career, owning and operating his own Perry’s Plumbing company for numerous years.
Outside of his professional life, Wilmer’s passions were many and varied. He was a devoted member of the First Church of God in Hugoton, finding spiritual community and connection there.
His enthusiasm for race car driving brought excitement and joy, and working on the cars with his son, Shanon.
Wilmer’s hands-on creativity shone through as he built his own car and took part in the Pinewood Derby Car Club with his two boys, Shelly and Shanon. His admiration for the Boy Scouts and their values reflected his commitment to character and leadership development. Music was another source of delight in his life, especially the classic rock and roll hits of the 1950s and 60s, which he cherished along with quality time spent with his loved ones.
Wilmer’s legacy is carried forward by those who survive him. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Ladonna Perry, of Hugoton, Kansas; his two sons, Shelly and wife Joan of Kansas City, Kansas, and Shanon Perry of Hugoton, Kansas; as well as his three brothers, Donald Perry and wife Paula, Steve Perry and wife Cynda, all of Hugoton, Kansas, and Robert Perry and wife Margie of Taos, New Mexico. He also leaves behind two sisters, Donna Taylor of Lake Kahola, Kansas, and Patricia Kleffman of Hugoton, Kansas. His grandchildren, Erin Kurt and husband David of Wichita, Kansas, and Eric Perry and wife Paige of Kansas City, Kansas, continue to carry his memory forward, alongside his two great-grandchildren, Violet and Rose Kurt.
Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Larry Perry, whose memories remain cherished by the family.
